This old forum is just about done for with the few folks we have left and the lack of dialogue. Irregardless, I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a good new year to follow. A special good wish for Liz and her undying support of this old swamp we all love

I noticed that too. Is there somewhere else to go that is Delta specific?

Merry Christmas to you too.
I wish that people familiar with the Delta were more involved in sending pictures and tips on cruising in this region. I would love to learn more about special places to anchor, places to eat and spend the night.

Merry Christmas everyone! Delta rats are still around, we're just not a noisy bunch!

Still here, just not much happening this time of year. MERRY CHRISTMAS

Merry Christmas as well from a Delta ex-Pat now in North Carolina. And ditto the extra good wishes to Liz for keeping us up to date. We are coming out for the holiday to see my 92 year old dad and a mini family reunion, up in Jenner.

We used to like chartering a boat from Club Nautique and taking it up the Delta the week after Christmas. A memorable one was our first when we were given a guest pass to Tinsley Island, it was just us (wife and two kids) and the Basque caretaker and his family. I wanted to go anchor out for a night or two, but the weather was lousy and the family said no way. so we just did a few day trips from Tinsley and back. The caretaker (Gus, I think his name was) was a super friendly guy, and they had nice lights and decorations up. He invited us to use any of the facilities, when he was going off to Costco for supplies, we had him get some ribs, he got out a big bag of mesquite charcoal and fired up one of their huge pits and everyone had a fine time, the two families. A great Delta Christmas memory.

Another fond holiday season memory is duck hunting on Grizzly Island, and goose and pheasant hunting on a great-uncle's farm on Ryer Island, and my mom cooking them up for wonderful holiday meals, especially her pheasant dishes. My dad's family has a long history in the Delta; they also had a farm on Sherman Island for a long time where he spent many happy days back in the late 20's and the 30's, filled with lots of great stories about the mail boats, river steamers (he was raised in Sacramento) , ferries and of course, characters.

Merry Christmas to all! Yeah, notice lots seem to lurk but nobody posts. Strange. Remember Hal Schell hosted a delta forum a number of years ago, but that didn't seem to take off either. Was up in the 'swamp on Saturday, cruising the asphalt sloughs. Great weather. Took the Vette along 160, through Isleton to Oxbow, to look at some homes there for sale. Then went to the Delta Marina. The Point is looking good. The tall ship Hawaiian Chieftain was out on the river by the Rio Vista bridge. Finished the afternoon at Foster's Bighorn. Saddens me to see Das Cliffhaus still rotting away.

Gin man,

I started fishing the Delta at Herman and Helens or was it Helen and Herman's...oh well...I was about four years old and I was tied by a rope to a nearby tree so I couldn't get all the way in the water as I fished. Anyway for about 20 years, starting in about 1988, our family had a yearly fishing trip in October where we took our boats and rented cabins at Vieira's Resort. The bar there was called Patty's Cookhouse or Lemoynes Landing and several other names thru the years. However, thru all those tears I never once traveled the two miles down 160 to eat at Das Cliffhaus. What a shame...all I hear is good things about it and now it's closed. I think thru the years I have hung out at almost every watering hole on the old swamp but never the Cliffhaus. Lots of fond eating memories...steak and peanut butter at Al's, cheeseburgers at Wimpys, prime rib in Isleton, breakfast burritos at H&H, pasta and wine at Guisti's,and the fabulous double cheeseburger at Windmill Cove....the list could go on and on.......great memories all

DBH, I started hanging out in the delta in 1992. Used to tent camp at Vieira's quite a bit. The Crawdad Festival weekends back then were legendary. Remember some of the employees cruising us around on the golf carts. LeMoine's Landing was there at the time, then Rusty Porthole, then ..... The last time I was there think it was Mait's. That apparently has changed. Das Cliffhaus was great. Total German hoffbrau house atmosphere, delicious food (their barbequed oysters), great beer, overlooking the Sacramento River. The Outrigger also was alot of fun on Saturdays way back when.

Started on the Delta in 1965 when I was 8 years old. Went from 8' dinghy to 32' cabin cruiser with jetboats and tournament boats along the way. Lived in disco from 84 to 99 and there is no where better than the delta. It is just caught back in time. Was up at the Ryde for brunch a couple of weeks ago a tradition for Christmas. I have lived in 17 states and you just dont find places like you do on the delta.
