I am planing on going to St. Michaels for the day this Friday, I would like to tie up to a mooring and take the water taxi into town. Does anyone know if there are any moorings around St. Michaels?
thanks

I do not believe there are moorings in St. Mikes. Most boats will anchor just outside of the channel on the port side of the harbor when approaching the harbor. Also there are spots off to the stbd. side next to the Maritime Museum. Other than that you can pay $100 a yr. and become a member of the Maritime museum. That will give you free day dockage and it is close to town. You can also hail the marinas in the harbor and they have hourly rates for day dockers.

Yes but what are the chances of any slips being open on the 3rd of July

You can call St. Michaels Marina and also the Harbor Inn and Marina. They will let you know. Are you planning on staying overnight? If not they may have a spot for you for a few hrs. or so. Most boats will not come in until sometime Fri. You may luck out. Also the water taxi will come out and get you at the anchorage spots.
If you plan on making other trips to St. Michaels marina then I would join the Maritime Museum, they always have room for a boats 20-25'for the day.
As you come into St. Mikes the Crab Claw rest. is on your stbd. just past them is a small marina that also has day slips. You could hail them when approaching and ask them as well. I would call all of them now and see what is available. Dont give up, ask for the dockmaster. They will all try and accomodate you if you are persistant.

I stayed overnight in St. Michaels this weekend and was able to call on Thursday night for a slip on Saturday Night. The small marina Van is referring to is called Higgens Yacht Yard which is where I was able to get a slip. It isn't as polished as St. Michaels Marina but it was much less expensive and the owners were very nice.

The only moorings at St Michaels are private. The holding in the anchorage is know to be poor holding in some places so check that your anchor is firmly placed before you leave the boat on a water taxi.

We were there Thursday night. Water taxi rate is $3.50 per person each way from the river anchorage area & $2.50 per person inside the harbor anchorage areas. My experience is that you need to get there early to get either a slip or a good anchoring spot. We've never had a holding problem, but we take some time with the set. River area seems to have a better rep as far as holding goes

If you need a name,,the marina straight in past thr Crab Claw is Higgins. Not much for facilities, but a good place to park.
