Heading out east in early July. Wondering what Moriches looks like this season? Planning on contacting BoatUS to be safe, but has anyone run it yet this season? Thanks in advance

Pretty straightforward. Not sure what all the drama is about. Just hit it from mid-tide or better and then
you basically take the south hook towards the inlet (watch for the 5 mph buoys) and then take the north hook through Harts Cover.

For the north route you can either follow the phantom buoys that are still on the Navionics app and keep the two tall stick to the west of your boat, they are where green 3 and 5 used to be, (I just did this last week) or take the new cut through the middle by staying in between the red/green markers (sticks with arrows) (This information is from a source with local knowledge and I haven't tried it myself but I will in a few weeks).

BTW, I have a 42' Fly Bridge with a 3' 6" draft so if you need more water adjust accordingly but I never saw less than 5' under my keel.

Very interesting. Haven’t done this trip in years. Would’ve taken the northern route instead of dropping south towards the inlet. Thanks so much for your guidance Jeff.

Last month i brought my boat from Greenport to my new home Center Moriches, As a south shore newbie & i draw close to 5' i hired a Local captain and we also followed TowBoatUS - here's how we ran it and you can see that the charting was way off in spots

I have been navigating, like many others here, Moriches for 16 years or so. Never had a problem. Keep in mind, the navigation route through Moriches can change a couple of times during the season. Point is, what you saw yesterday as a good route may not be a good route tomorrow. When you plan to go through Moriches, other than posting here, call Sea Tow or Boat US and ask for an update. Best to plan a high tide when passing through. 60 minutes before or after high tide you should be fine.

Has anyone been thru Moriches this season. Planning to go out east from East Patchogue to Shinnecock. I know there is low water there what is best route? I have 96 Grady White 268 Islander if that helps.

I live in Center moriches & Went to Shinnecock via the bay/canal last week about 90min before dead low- just came back from Drift 82 in Patchogue- mostly high tide but thats the easy part- what is your draft?

The hull draft is15" so maybe 25" with the outboard down. TIA
With that draft @ high tide you might be able to stay north on the state channel instead of taking the south loop towards the inlet.
BUT i've never done it

Just saw this posted on FB- Greg knows the bay better than anyone

Jeff C, any chance you could send the coordinates of all those waypoints? Thanks!

FYI, Moriches Bay channel was dredged this winter but is still marked poorly

Thanks. That's why I am looking for coordinates I can enter into a GPS. I don't want to depend on channel markers.
