I just bought a new GPS/radar and was wondering if I should mount the radome directly on the arch or on a mount. Also, if I mount directly on the arch in the center, will the GPS antenna be too close on one side of the arch about 3' away. Install documentation does not specify a mount for the radome.

Thanks

My Carver 355 has the Radome attached to a small mount that is then attached to the arch. My GPS sensor is located I'm guessing about 2 ft to the side.

My Radar and GPS are Raymarine and I've found them to be very helpful. Garmin is pretty helpful too so give then call.

Everything else being equal, I would keep the radome as low as possible for bridge clearance.

I mounted the radar today on a 5" aft leaning mount and placed the GPS about 30" to the starboard side. Both were attached directly to the radar arch. I fired it all up and everything worked as expected. Getting ready for the weekend and the maiden voyage.

I would think the GPS module/antenna should be mounted either above or below the radars beam.

Do you have the radar mounted with sufficient down angle so even at a slow, bow up speed, you will be able to see a small boat or object in the water. It's the little things close by that you're most likely to hit if you don't 'see' them.

Timjet, I bought the GARMIN GPSMAP 4208 and GARMIN 18HD radar.

It was easy to install and included everything I needed in the boxes except a couple of drill bits and a mount of choice. I mounted it on a 5" aft lean 5 degree down tilt radar mount made by Seaview. My only complaint is that the bolts supplied by Garmin extend through the mounting plate that attaches to the bottom of the radar by about 1.5 inches. They work, it just doesn't look clean. I am going to replace them next time I am working on the boat to clean things up a bit. Screen is very nice and system is easy to use.
