Hello All,

I have a 42 Silverton and usually keep it on Long Island. Looking to put it in Chesapeake for next summer.

Have been looking at Kent island, Rock Hall, Cambridge, St Michaels to base out of.

What would you guys suggest for a marina for a summer slip. Looking for something on the east side of the Chesapeake.

Looking for a place thats between 1 and 3 hours by boat to visit each weekend that I go down.

Things that I am looking for price, Pool, pool side bar or at least a bar on property, Resturant, nicer marina then a boat yard. Floating docks.

Let me here your thoughts.

As far as plans definitely looking to be in Rock Hall for 4th of July and the Pirate Festival.

What other must make or weekend events do I need to be at.

Thanks

Your requirements point to Rock Hall. That is a good location to get to many anchorages, Baltimore, Annapolis, etc. Plus, you've got some marina choices for what you're looking for. My first recommendation would be:

Floating piers, pool. restaurant right next to the marina (and more within walking distance).

Some others:

You can also drive a little less and keep your boat here:

Very protected. Small, but nice pool. Restaurant & bar. Short drive to other restaurants.

Several 42Cs here on the Chesapeake, many in the owner's club.

Very few places on that side with floating docks. Bay Bridge Marina, right on the east end of the bridge, and then Osprey Point, Haven Harbour (one section of docks, I think), and Rock Hall Landing in Rock Hall.

Several Silverton owners at BBM just now. Slightly pricey dockage. Don't remember if they still run the poolside bar, but they do have a restaurant on site. Lots of places (restaurants, bars, stores, etc.) in the nearby area.

Osprey Point has a really good restaurant on site, upscale menu and a little pricey, well worth it every time we've been. Haven Harbour has a dockside thing, but it hasn't been open when we've been there so can't say much about that. Kurt already mentioned Rock Hall Landing. Of the three, I think we like Osprey Point best, but we've only stayed at HH a couple times so far and it grows on us. RHL is nice but it's close enough to the restaurant (Waterman's) that the night time noise can get tedious.

There is one floating dock at the Hyatt Rivermarsh Marina in Cambridge. The marina does accept (encourage, even) seasonal bookings, but not sure they'd let you reserve on that one floating dock. Otherwise, it's a great place for a visit... if maybe a bit on the pricey side. (Don't know that first-hand; their seasonal rates may be much better than transient rates.)

If you drop the floating dock requirement, that would open up many more options. BTW, AFAIK the three big places in St. Michaels are "transient" docks; not sure they handle many boats for a whole season. The Miles River Yacht Club might be an option.

For best access to the Bay proper you really can't do better than Rock Hall. RH is also a short drive to Chestertown, the Kent County seat. While RH is known for its July 4th celebration, Pirates and Wenches weekend, Fall Fest funky bars, restaurants and crab house, Chestertown is known for is Downrigging Weekend (Tall Ships), Tea Party Weekend, Paint the Town, RiverFest, art galleries, Washington College and restaurants. Haven Harbor in RH meets all your requirements (All docks are being converted to floating docks). I believe Kent Island, St. Michaels and Cambridge will be outside your 3 hour drive if you're coming from LI. We live full-time on Still Pond Creek now, just outside of Chestertown, and spend a lot of time in all the locations so feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Might be another marina with some floating docks: Sassafras Harbor (maybe) in Georgetown, way up the Sassafras River. Last marina on the north side just before the bridge, anyway... Nice place; takes a while to get from there to the Bay.

Yes, Sassafras Harbor does have floating docks, however.....
7 miles up the river to its mouth before you reach the Bay and a good portion is NWZ. Also, because there are 4 marina in close proximity the river is very crowded and busy on weekends and holidays (locals call it "The Pennsylvania Navy"). Restaurant choices are limited if you don't want to drive but there is water taxi service to the 3 that are nearby, plus one small restaurant that is on the property. The marina is next to Rte 213 and the drawbridge so there could be a noise issue for some. They do have a pool but its small and across the road. On the plus side, the owner of the marina (Joe Evans) is a good guy and on-site nearly all the time so it is managed well.

Craig, correct. Now, who the hell is Joe Evans that I have stuck in my head????

Hey Mike,

I know a Jim Evans at Skipjack. Does that ring a bell???
