New to the Hudson

Geo
In a couple of words, dinner has been poor. Lunch was ok, but dinner faded. We've given them a number of tries over the duration of their tenure here and they've always let us down at dinner time.
I'd recommend Ship To Shore over most of everything in Kgn. these days. Their consistency is back, and so are the ingredients.

If you go to Haverstraw, I would recommend Babe's bar and grill. it is about 3/4 mile walk, but that may be the closest restaurant to the marina and the food is really good. fyi, don't be scared off by the biker bar persona.

Pat;

Welcome to HRCC. You won't find a better group of people anywhere. Somedays it may seem as if we are all fighting, but the truth is when the smoke clears we all belong to the same loving family who can fight amongst ourselves.

As Hogan stated, Croton is the best place to swim, and don't worry if the tide goes out all you have to do is be patient, swim a little longer and eventually Mother Nature will set you free. I speak from experience.

On the 4th of July you will see some of the best fireworks available right outside the entrance to Haverstaw at Bowline Park. Please, Please be careful of entering Bowline for the first time, as the most natural route hides the biggest danger. Follow someone in once and then after that it is a blast.

Good luck, and we'll see you on the docks. I'm at Green 70.

i haven't been to bowline since i was a kid. can you anchor a 32' there? what is the depth?

There are boats from 14' - 60+' that anchor in Bowline. It's pretty deep, so you need a lot of scope. Holding can be iffy, keep an eye on your anchor. The bottom is clay, so once you get the hook in - it can be a bitch to get it out.

Watch out for the grass near the shore, holding is not good there.

It seems most of the problems occur during tide swings.

Sounds like a tricky place, nevermind the brick wall immediately when you pull in? Is it really worth it, what is the attraction?

Just a nice quite anchorage where you can really enjoy the day. Especially on days when the wind in out of the northwest and Croton is rocking & rolling.

Welcome Pat. I'm sure as everyone said you will enjoy your time at Haverstraw. Please feel free to visit us on Green 119 and if you need cable just sign up for a splice. (that will make sense at some point)

Capt. Art - Babes is a very good restaurant and worth your time. I might opt for a cab though, I think that 3/4 of a mile estimate was very generous, and some of it is uphill. For walking distance you might want to try Parrot Bay. It's also very good and beers always cold!!

Marsij, I'll keep Babes & Parrot Bay, Ship to Shore, Mariners in mind along with Boating Bobs Torches in Newbugh. I notice Hogans been touting this Torches too. I guess that commission he earns is good for something.

I've only been to Torches once! I've been to Babes and Parrot Bay many times. Babe's has awesome ribs, I'd stick with the burgers at Parrot Bay - they do have live music every Friday and Saturday nights.

Another good one is the Bricktown Brewery, but you MUST take a cab there.

If I recall, it's Torches where I can fit. If I go out for food I'd like to take the boat.

you can park on the outside of torches dock. Just use plenty of fenders....
