New York

Do you have to go to DMV to get the anchor or can it be done via mail or online?

I took the course I didn't know you could get an anchor on your license.

That's too cool! A BE endorsement, no, an NBR endorsement, right on your drivers license. How did Les get involved in this?

Hey, Les, can you help us out in Cali to get the cool BE anchors, too? <BFG>

You can do it online and they’ll mail you the new license with the anchor on it.

I will resolve this issue over the winter.

FYI - someone I know was telling everyone SHE had her captains license, here, there's an anchor on my NYS driver's license....oy!!
Shake my head!!

I have a Coast Guard captains license, how do i apply that to the NYS DMV form?

Time to wake-up this thread. As of New Years' Day 1/1/2025, ALL BOATERS (over age 11) in New York are required to complete a NASBLA compliant boating safety course. While this course is available on-line, there are in-person classes offered by NYS Parks, the US Power Squadron and the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. I can't speak to the first 2 sources, but the Coast Guard Aux classes can be accessed at CGAUX.ORG website. the list is continuously updated, so check back regularly.

Funny that you just posted this as im just coming back from NYS DMV trying to get my anchor instead of carrying around both my license and boating card.
Turns out that the course card issued by my local Power Squadron wasn’t in the state system-
the guy at DMV was great and spent 15min trying to resolve things, as well as bringing over a supervisor to help
Ultimately they took the application & issued a new temp with endorsement but said that Albany may reject it – I will know in a couple of weeks

I believe the current 8 hr boating safety course offered by the Power Squadron is the same course the Coast Guard Auxiliary offers - I don't know about older versions of their programs. NASBLA has always required a minimum 8 hr course; now NYS requires a State specific section be included in that training. If your course wasn't 8 hr, or wasn't specifically NASBLA certified, that may be the issue.
