We took some friends up to Bannerman's for sightseeing yesterday. While cruising under the Bear Mr Br a 30 something Bayliner overtakes at speed, close enough to "pass the Grey Poupon". A bit later, while drifting north of Cold Spring a 40 ft Regal at cruise comes within 2 boat lengths, for no good reason.
at least they waved.

There was plenty of river an minimal traffic in both scenarios, and no need for either close pass. Seems courtesy on the water is as rare as courtesy in other public places!

end of rant.

Same AH's who will cut you off in traffic.

We boated the Hudson for gosh 20 years. All sorts of idiots out there. Like people in Sunfish cutting in front of a tug pushing barges, outboards drift fishing in front of cargo ship in Ambrose Channel forcing 5 whistles, idiots jumping our wake by the Rhinecliff bridge waving beer cans (didn't know the sheriff was behind us hoping for such lmao), and such. But the ICW. Man, you want to meet as$holes? Take a boat South from the Hudson to Florida.

You don't have to go to the Hudson River to experience bad boating, it is everywhere. It may be stupidity or it may be arrogance, but it's out there wherever there are pleasure boaters.

On my lake it's the Wake Boats that are ruining it for me... I don't even go out during the 'season'.....

My biggest problem on the lake is wake/surf boats. They're mostly clueless and when they pass too close, I have to scramble to try and turn into their wake at 45 degrees, endangering their "surfer".
