Norscot dripless shaft seals

I just purchased a 1997 Carver 325 Aft Cabin cruiser. The shaft seals need to be replaced and I am considering the Norscot dripless seals and would like to hear from anyone who has experience with this product.

Personally I would go with standard seals with Gore packing. From that point forward any problem is minor.

Norscot are the best thing I have ever seen how and why they are not more popular I have no idea. I have never had to add fluid to my starboard side in the 5 years I have owned the boat I added fluid to the port side and it seemed to disappear rather quickly then I notice there was a crack in the plastic jar right at the hose clamp use to mount it. I called the company I actually spoke to the owner apparently they are a small company I told I had a leaky jar and he sent me out a replacement for a few dollars. I asked him if it was normal to never need fluid and he said this is common once there are broken in. I just don't get why they are not the norm on every boat. Pumping cooling water thru them is a problem waiting to happen.

I do have one that developed a leak late last year and know needs replaced. No water leaks in but the fluid leaks out when in motion. Or when hauled out. Something I plan to take care of when I haul for bottom painting.

I do agree with Dave. It is a simple system an d low cost. They seem to last for a long time as well. From what I have seen of other systems I have to agree with Dave. I can not believe they are not more popular.
