Anybody going? I was very disappointed last year, but could use a taste of boating right about now. I'm thinking of going Wednesday afternoon rather than Saturday afternoon. Weekends the show gets too crowded, especially since I have to walk with a cane right now. Does anyone know if West Marine is returning to the show? I'm actually going to be looking for a new compass and VHF antenna. I don't expect any bargains, but would love lower prices than the ones on line. Hy

I plan to go as always. I enjoy getting out and just dreaming about boating. I don't know what vendors will be there but I would like to find a good deal on a hard bottom dinghy. I have been very happy with my current model with a roll-up floor but the more I use it the more I would prefer a hard bottom. If I do find what I'm looking for I would be happy to offer my current one up for a good price!

As much as id like to check out all the boats & stuff this trip into NYC is just not worth it to me

I haven't even seen a commercial... When is it ..

I hate going into the city !

Stopped going a couple years back. Never found it to be very good. Heading to Miami next month. If you are going to dream....dream big!

I haven't been in over 10 years. Parking sucked (and expensive), long lines, constantly shrinking number of exhibitors...

Besides, I'll be on the beach in Aruba when it's on!

We usually go on Fridays but we’ll be away this year and won’t make it.

I don't drive in any more. Many of the parking lots are now construction sites for new apartments! what's left cost about $50 to park. I used to take the LIRR to the show. Now that I'm in Westchester, I'll take Metro North and a cab. Cheaper than driving. Sho runs from the 23 to the 27. Hy

We have taken the ferry for years it's how we make it a boating day :)

It’s pretty cheap and convenient for me to park in NJ and take the ferrry. But the show isn’t what it used to be. I won’t get into the $12,000 of damage to my car last year from a NJ driver texting when he should be driving!

I also drove to Miami last year, and most likely will again this year. I was disappointed that there weren’t better show discounts on electronics. I bought about $5,000 of electronics online from Defender while at the show because the prices were equivalent. I did buy a pair of new self tailers for my sailboat, but West Marine had them $500 cheaper the following week. I’m not sure that any boat show discounts are quite as good as they were made out to be.

We go in to the city frequently. I leave the car in LIC and jump on the #7. Very easy to get to the Javits Center now that they extended the #7 line, plus you don’t have to fight the crosstown traffic.

Anybody know where to get free tickets this year?
I usually get free tickets for one place or another but this year I haven't received any offers :(

BoatUS has discounted tickets; I haven't been able to get free tickets for years. Bummer. Hy

Renewing the membership with them at the boat show also offsets some of the cost of attendance,
Sorry I’m going to miss it this year.
We look forward to a day at the boat show and a nice dinner afterwards somewhere in the city.

I bought my boat from Staten Island Yacht sales and for years they would call and invite me. This stopped a few years ago. Sadly my salesperson past away several years ago I suspect this is why I'm no longer on the list.

I went to the boat show today, Thursday. Most of the boats displayed were geared towards fishing, which is ok as I'm not in the market for a new boat. I just wanted some afternoon emersion in boating; and I got it. It was a nice way to spent a few hours, even with the rain. Now that the 7 train stops a block away getting there was relatively easy and definitely less expensive. West Marine had a tiny display, nothing much. The venders were the same ones, basically, who are there each year. No surprises there. Cruisers had a desk and brochures; no boats! That was surprising. I would love to see how they've updated them. I looked at Sea Ray instead; very nice cockpits and interiors. Now I can start my countdown to spring outfitting. My winter projects are cancelled again this year because my back has deteriorated to the point at which I cannot do any heavy lifting, pulling, or wrenching. I'm scheduled for a trial insert of a spinal stimulator in three weeks to help deal with the pain. What a PITA! Stay warm; boating will come sooner than you can imagine. Hy
