New boat so I've been running thru in my head winterizing proceedures. Assuming I want to change the oil before layup, should I do it on the hard or in the slip?

Reason I ask is I'm also assuming engines should be warmed up prior to change. That was no problem on the gas boat which could be run on muffs on the hard. But not sure new boat can be run on hard off of a hose. Kind of doubt it. That would mean doing oil change before getting hauled. Then winterizing engines with pink after haul.

The hassle is the slip is not where I will be storing and I pay the mechanic to come to the boat. Trying to avoid two trips.

You will have an easier time getting the engine warmed up and oil thinner if you do it in the water, I would be afraid to run very long with muffs. It's hard enough to get diesels warm by just idling, let alone doing it with muffs.

You should take a nice run to warm the motors up, come back and then do the oil change.

My 2001 496 Merc has a drain hose attached to the bottom of the oil pan. After putting the hose through the bilge drain (garboard), I warm it up to operating temp on the muffs then open up the fitting at the end of the drain hose. It seems to me that maximizes the removal of oil at the bottom of the pan.

If your gas engines have that same drain hose, I would suggest changing them on the hard.
