I have an older Lectrasan that I need to get working with a Crown head. I've opened it up (the Lectrasan) and inspected/cleaned the interior. Plates are good and intact, mixer motors run, shafts good, blades good, etc. Unfortunately the control panel/switch is missing and I've no idea what the looks like. Is a manual available? And, what all is entailed in the panel/switch? I've heard that the old timers (as in timers, not us) were funky and that there is a new retrofit available, but what I don't know about or have a source for is the rest of the control stuff.

Thanks,

Robert
(Sunny and nice on the San Francisco Bay today)

Robert, it isn't good news... It doesn't generally pay to try and ressurrect any Lectra/San that was built before 1992. None of the parts for the control head are available any longer through Raritan.

The upgrade kit is part # 32-700RFK, Retrofit Kit, Lectra/San to Electro-Scan, 12 volt, factory price $831.29. BoatFix will likely offer it somewhat cheaper, call George and get a quote, but it'll still probably be $700(+)

Thanks, Vic. Is there an owner's manual, and perhaps a schematic of the control head? I need to figure out how to limp this thing through for 6 to 8 months when I plan to buy a new one along with a new head. That's when we'll be putting in a whole new head/shower area, but until then there just aren't the funds to do it. If it's a matter of timing and switching I can assemble some components and make it work, I just need the specs.

Thanks again,

Robert

I don't have the manual in electronic format to send via the internet. Send me a private mail with your address and I'll drop it in the mail for you. Also, if it's just the timer that's bad, there's a fellow in Annapolis, MD who makes an aftermarket timer that'll work in the existing control head. It requires drilling a couple of holes, but seems to work just fine:

Thanks, Vic. I sent you an email. Just out of curiosity, what does the control head do, and what's the difference between the old and the new design?

Thanks,

Robert

The control head is the means with which you turn it on. It also controls which cycle the system is in (there are two cycles during the 2½ minute running time of the system). And it has indicator lights on it to let you know what cycle it is in.

The primary difference between the old and newer systems is that units built before 1992 used a manual twist-timer to start it up and to switch cycles. After 1992, this has been done electronically, and the newer systems have a microprocessor to control the cycles and "light the lights," along with a digital readout (on current units) to tell you the status of the system (enough electric power available, adequate salt in the system, ambient temperature, number of cycles run, and a number of other things).

Thanks Vic -- sounds like the newer systems are well worth the investment, and that's where I plan to end-up. Looking forward to getting the owner's manual for the old "salt" one I have for now. If you like I'll scan it, convert it to a PDF and email it back to you to save you some time and postage in the future.

Thanks again,

Robert
