One of our associates had their boat take on water yesterday. Fortunately the boat and its 6 teens were saved. I know this kid, he's been around the CYC for years. It's actually a great story, the grandfather bought a boat so he could teach his grandson to sail and spend more time with him. I think this year is the first time his gradnfather let him go out on his own. Read the article and you'll see that he's very responsible other than not having a VHF....which surprises me.

OSSINING - Quick thinking and calm heads helped save six teenage boys from a sinking sailboat off Croton Point yesterday morning.
"They did do everything right," said Tom Reddy, a second assistant Ossining fire chief.
The teens were on their way from Croton Yacht Club to Shattemuc Yacht Club in Ossining, using the boat's auxiliary motor because of the light breeze. After rounding Croton Point about 11:30 a.m., the boat began to fill with water and started sinking rapidly.
They put on life jackets, tried to lighten the boat by throwing things overboard, called 911 on a waterproof cell phone and raised the vessel's brightly colored sail to attract attention.
"As soon as it started to take on water, we started throwing stuff overboard," said one of the boys, Max Singer-Aguanno, a 15-year-old from Croton-on-Hudson.
Westchester County police declined to release the other boys' names due to their ages, but Lt. James Luciano said that one was 14 and the rest were 15, and all were Croton residents.
The Ossining Fire Department was first to receive the call. From land, members noticed that the sailboat was nearly submerged and the passengers were jumping into the Hudson River, Reddy said.
The Fire Department's rescue boat was out of service, so the firefighters went to nearby Westerly Marina and commandeered a powerboat, while a boat from the Westchester County police's Marine Unit, already on the river patrolling near Tarrytown, rushed to the scene.
