Port of Redwood City

Yeah, it's a small, but steady port.

Back in the early to mid 80's, I purchased two Bayliner's from VIP Marine, which was based there. Steve Duguay owned it and Dan Ice ran it. They gave great deals (if you asked/negotiated for one). They sold a lot of Bayliner's out of that location. VIP was the first boat dealer in the Bay Area to charge buyer's the bogus "freight & prep" charges to their low-ball ad pricing (no surprise, he was a former car dealer). Most all boat dealers hopped on the "f&P" band wagon since when it was properly presented to timid buyers as a
"hard cost", they fell for it. It was a huge profit item.

Pete's harbor was a sleepy place, but they had the fuel dock, which was important for us rec boaters. Pete's recently sold and I heard that a condo/strip mall type development might be going in.

We also enjoyed the mystery of Lockheed's huge barge which contained the "stealth ship" which was stationed in the port. A friend of ours that would boat with us worked for Lockheed and would just smile when we asked her what was inside that huge barge. I heard that the stealth ship was recently sold for scrap metal. As most secret gov't projects are...

Lots of history in the Port. I wish them the best!

Cool - I used to have my boat at Bair Island marina

I always thought Pete's could have been a better place if they had live music on the weekends, but it was pretty much of a dive

here's a couple pics of a ship and a tug in the South Bay coming from the Port. The water in the South Bay can be like a mirror this time of year

Great pics!

Cruising by those behemoths sure puts things into perspective!

And FAC water! It doesn't get much better than that! [:-thumbu]

While perusing the local craigslist ads (as a hobby), I've noticed quite a few of the Pete's Harbor refugee's looking for new liveaboard slips. Some of the ads were even asking for tows to their new location! [:O]

I think I'd feel sorry for the folks that got a new berther in the slip next to them that had to be towed to their marina! Yikes! [-crzwom][:-pirate]

True.

I've known quite a few liveaboards over the years and for the most part, they are an asset to the marina where they stay. Most usually keep an eye on things, whether it is making their presence known to people that are "walking the docks", or re-fastening a dock line that has loosened up during a strong wind.

And of course, there are those that want to be there for other (not so nice) reasons as well...

I always dreamed of living aboard when I was younger and before I started a family, but as things went, I had to settle on living in a home that is on the water. Not quite the same thing, but close enough.

For now... ;)
