Potable Water Pump Recommendations Needed

I have had problems with my potable water pump. I upgraded to a Shurflo Extreme Series 5.7 Smart Sensor pump. The first one lasted 14 months, second one two months, and the third one two days. Voltage and polarity are good as well as the connections.

My boat builder has replaced the first two pumps and said if the third one fails they will send me any brand I want. I notice that Flojet and Jabsco have their own versions of sensor pumps. My water needs are pretty simple with only the galley and head sinks and shower.

Does anyone have any experience with the Jabsco or Flojet sensors pumps. My inclination is to just go back to a pressure demand pump with an accumulator.

Thanks,

Rick

I manage quite well with an ordinary pressure-switch type pump.

Some folks experience temperature changes in the shower as the pump cycles on & off. My feeling is that an oversized pump will cycle more and cause more temperature variations. A smaller pump will run flat-out when the shower is on and there are no pressure variations. Just my opinion.

Mine is a Par-Max 3 (3.4 gpm) and does the job nicely for me.

I've used a Par-Max 4 for almost 3 years now with no problem at all.

I have been looking at the Par Max 3 & 4. I have been boating for 40 years and have always had good service from Jabsco.

The variable speed Jabsco PAR units are as good as any that are currently available for a reasonable price.

Thanks Vic. Are you referring to the Jabsco Sensor Max VSD pump?

I don't know how familiar you are with the Shurflo pump, but one thing that always puzzled me was when I shut off the pump at the switch, the red LED light on the switch would not go out immediately. It would start going dim and take about 15 seconds to go out, like it was being back fed power from the pump. When I turn off my Flojet pump the light dies immediately.

Yep, the Sensor Max is the one I was referring to. Jabsco products are pretty good, if you don't get the absolute cheapest ones - go for mid-price, and you should be fine.

I dunno about the light on your switch. Sounds almost like there's a capacitor somewhere in the circuitry that takes a little while to bleed off.
