I have a boogered up female thread on the hydraulic connection for the Power Trim Cylinder for Mercruiser Stern Drive. Do they make a tap so I can clean up the threads?

They've made a number of trim cylinders over the years. Does yours have the front and rear fittings?

Easiest and quickest route would be to take it to a machine shop...or plumber. Gotta take the cylinder apart though. You can buy most components separately. You can usually buy used cylinder at marine repair shop. Independent usually cheaper that factory/dealer.

As in all hydraulic components, repairs have to be done clean, clean, clean.
 
It has both front and rear tappings. I took it off and I'll bring it to work tomorrow and see if I have a tap to fit.
 
It might be better if you got a fitting to carefully chase the threads. A tap will cut threads and they're already fine aluminum threads.
 
What is this cylinder on? I tried looking it up as Alpha and didn't match the part number.
 
My bad... I was trying to match your number to Alpha One Gen ONE, not GEN TWO. Gen One may have one of two "pairs" like Gen Two, or one part that fits both sides...

Just re-checked as Gen Two, and MerCruiser Parts Express confirms your number as the Starboard Side Cylinder and calls it 81594A7.

My good... We had to replace our Transom Assembly and I have a pair of very fresh SEI trim cylinders. 1996 Gen Two. If you get stuck I can sell them to you cheap. Worked like new when they came off the boat this past winter. Already confirmed that the threads are free and clean.

Port and Starboard Trim Cylinders sold to good home. More takeoff parts still available. I need to get going on a list.
