I own a 2002 Carver 396 and have the props pulled. I want to have them gone over and reconditioned before the new season starts if needed. I have read about Black Dogs Props at Kent Island and they seem to be a good company with the latest equipment to check the props. Has anyone used them or have another service to recommend? I am located At Great Oak Marina in Fairley Creek.

I wont use anything other than a propscan shop. it was an expensive lesson but propscan added performance. Make sure you get a printout of results.

I've been using The Digital Prop Shop in Deale rb2@gr5t Herrington Harbor North with a great deal of success over the last 3 years.

I've used Black Dog. They're propscan and great people. About $260 for 18" prop two winters ago. They give you a before and after scan. Look at their website.

I've used BlackDog twice so far. They are top notch, pricey but top notch... these are the printout from the last set I did. These were brand new out of the box. Had them done before putting them on the boat. 24x24 Nibral

I've never used Black Dog but have used Atlantis in Mt. Laurel, NJ which is also a Prop Scan shop. Outstanding results. So, like Bruce said, I would recommend that you use any PropScan shop that is convenient to you and only a PropScan shop.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I will go with Black Dog. I plan to take the props in myself. What information about the boat do I need for Black Dog if any?

Thanks to pale ale for posting those charts of all to see. those pitch variations cause more than some vibration. They seem to adversely affect the efficiency of the props reducing fuel economy and speed.

Panacea,

They will want to know the boat make, model, year, RPMs at WOT for each engine, engine type, tranny type and they may ask you other questions like if you notice any vibrations, performance issues, etc.

you need to know the current WOT rpm and what WOT rpm you want.

Be sure to call to make sure they'll be open when you plan to arrive. Winter hours can be a little irregular. When I got there I found the Black Dog in the hallway, but only one other person around.

My props are at Black Dog right now. The previous owner of my boat had the props worked at Black Dog too. I figured I would stay with a good thing.
