I read that tomorrow morning (Super bowl Sunday) the Queen Mary II is coming to San Francisco for the first time. This is the largest cruise ship in the world and would be fanastic to see passing under the Golden Gate. Has anyone heard the approx time this is going to happen? I'm thinking of driving over there and watching her enter the bay. Should be an awesome sight.

Just found out it's not until 3:30pm...oh well, forget that (SUPER Bowl!).

Seeing the worlds largest cruise ship or the super Bowl and you are picking the football game? Years ago the Super Bowl was the same weekend of the cleveland Boat show, we always went the day of the game as it wasn't as busy. <g>

We cruised by her when she was docked in Long Beach. Quite a site and lots of security.

Ater a morning taking friends from Berkeley out for a 2 hour cruise, I returned home, then took the Admiral out to look for the QM2. We got a bit of a late start, as I had to repack the starboard shaft log at the Berkeley Marina fuel dock, (another story!) but cruised down past Angel Island about 4pm, and saw the huge ship as it went behind Alcatraz. So our late start was just right timing to see her go past the SF cityfront.

We returned to home port just at dusk. What a great day!

I took a couple of snapshots with my (first generation) digital, low res camera. I regret not taking along the good 4MP camera! From the north, we had a bit too much backlighting, and I'm no photographer (too many other expensive hobbies...) I'll try to post something tomorrow.

I'll bet there are better pix in tomorrow's newspapers!

Thanks for the link, Charles. Great pics. She's impressive, but not a great looking ship.

yzer...I agree, it's not a great looking ship. Rather stately and old fashioned looking... Not at all streamlined and sleek like most of the mega liners of the 21st century.
