Looking to upgrade the electronics on the boat I purchased in October. It is all old and needs to go. When deciding what to replace it with I am thinking whether or not I need radar or not? It currently has Raytheon equipment with a huge spinning antenna on the front of the bridge which I want to get rid of. Anyone else boat on Lake Erie and use radar? I am seldom out at night or really bad weather. Just looking for pros and cons.

Not in your area, but...

" I am seldom out at night or really bad weather."

I always used it. It was another tool in the toolbox. Useful for finding floating nuns or marker sticks that might be difficult to see otherwise. Often noticed things that I "glossed over". Besides, if you always use it, then when conditions get snotty, the usage is instinctual rather than requiring thought.

But you might consider a dome unit vs a rotating stick.

Simply an observation. YMMV. My method is good for me, but not necessarily good for you.

If you have it on the boat, you are required to use it.

Agreed, & the new dome units can be very small and im sure they'll work better than your old unit
