Removing the stereo from a Santego

I know this has been discussed before, but I hope some fresh insight might help. I am trying to remove the Maxxima radio/cassette stereo and speakers from the cabin of my 1988 Santego 30. I can see a bracket and (?)screws on the sides, but would have to take apart the cabinet this is all mounted in to get access.

Also, the speakers are mounted on either side of the electrical panels, and there is access to their backside, but I am not sure the proper way to remove them. Are the screwed in the front or back of the wood frame?. I can't see how to remove the black fabric in front of the speaker without ruining it.

Any advice is appreciated. I am tempted to take the sawsall to the whole setup and rebuild. The stereo has no use to me so ripping its guts out to get access to the brackets and wiring is not out of the question, however, if there is a better and neater solution, I would prefer that.

I hope someone replies. I've tried every which way til sunday trying to get that radio out. No clips,hasps or screws that are accessible. Stuck my head in behind electrical panel, no luck. Sawzall may be the only approach, or a hammer! By the way, have you got the Merc drives in yours?
 
I believe a Maxxima requires an extraction "key" basically a thin, narrow piece of metal that slides in above the stereo and below the frame. Lifts tabs that engage the top of the unit. I think.
 
I'm not quite at the sawzall, but not too far off either. Having recently purchased one, this is tempting...

Yes, I have the Merc 260hp engines, but replaced one of my outdrives with an SEI unit this past spring. One of a few upgrades I have done since buying the boat last fall. More to come!

Slide a piece of metal between the outside of the radio and the inside of the retention bracket. There is a tab that you have to depress to get the radio to slide out. You have to do this on both sides of the radio.

Or you can do like I did. I took a large Craftsman screwdriver and beat the snot out of it with a hammer until I could pry it out !
