I just read this on FaceBook. Sorry to hear we will be losing another Bethel Island icon!

"To those who know Barry Wysling, he has been diagnosed with lung and lymph node cancer, given 6 weeks to 6 months. Went to his living memorial today at his house (still going on). He is not going to under go any treatments, just gonna party til the end...just like him."

I also received this email from one of his son's:

"Hi All:

With deep regret I must inform you that a long time delta resident,
harbormaster and marina owner is currently terminal with cancer and not
expected to be here much longer.

Barry Wysling was the Harbormaster of Beacon Harbor on B.I. for 8 years,
followedby another 7 years as the Harbor Master for City of Martinez, and
finally as the owner of Beacon Harbor until he retired five years ago.
Always active, Barry was a member of the Cal.State Harbormaster and Port
Capt's Assoc., B.I Chamber of Commerce, Nor. Cal. Power Cruisers Assoc,
and a 40 year member of the San Joaquin YC.

He is still accepting calls 925-684-2155 and enjoys hearing from old friends."

SJYC issued this announcement yesterday:

"After a short fight with cancer, Barry Wysling passed away on Friday evening October 2nd. Eight bells will be rung for him this evening [Saturday] at the SJYC meeting.

At his request there will be no further service for him. He gave himself his going away bash and that is the way he wanted to be remembered."

I'm glad he did not suffer long once his condition was diagnosed. He will be missed around the Island!
