Hey all!

My father-in-law is going to be visiting for 2 weeks from Iceland. He's a big fisherman, and i would like to take him out fishing one day. I recall something about that you need a license to saltwater fish now? Is this true? If so, How do I get a license for us both, where do I go etc? How much does it cost?

And, if you have any advice where would be a good place to fish this time of year, that would be very helpful too!

i was under the impression this lasted for about 2 years and then was repealed. i certainly haven't renewed the last few years and n o one in any bait shop has asked. anyone else know for certain?
 
no license required but fishing this time of year? Maybe out of Freeport or Montauk you can codfish. I'm not sure there is anything else in season right now.
 
Stripe bass season opened 3/15. No salt water license is required. It was repealed. There is a federal registration with no fee. I got mine at the town clerk's office.
 
They put the licensing in to effect a few years ago. There was a lot of griping about it, so they changed it so that now you still need the license, but it's free.
 
You can take a party boat out and catch bottom fish off the south shore.

Sea Bass, Cod, Pollack, etc.

Its a long ride but fish are being caught.
 
I had gotten my license last year at Patchogue Bait and Tackle on West Main Street. You probably could pick them up at any tackle shop or even Dicks Sporting. I'm not sure of the regulations for people from out of state or out of country, but for everyone else it's free. I do believe that if you fish on a party boat, you don't need a license; the boat's license covers all paying guests. Good luck with the fishing. Hy
