The Rusty Porthole Restaurant is under NEW management. Many of you know Kimmie, the bartender. She and her husband have taken over.
They are already serving a nice new menu and they plan to have live music and a working jukebox!
There is lots of dock space to stop by for a meal and an enjoyable evening. Check it out soon!

The building at the former Lundburg's Landing caught fire and the fire department let it burn to the ground. It had been used by homeless folks, so now they will have to move elsewhere.

The new bridge going onto BI is progressing well and should be finished sometime this year. It is looking good!!!!

Know her, Kimmie is my niece. I hope that her and Big Rob make a go of it. My sister used to own the the Pizza Shop and Restaurant and gave it to Kimmie when she moved. Unfortunately, the business failed and Kim moved on. She has also worked at the Boathouse and other restaurants on the Island so she knows most everyone around there. I've got to plan a trip down to see her soon!

One of the many previous owners/mgr's of the Porthole used to serve alligator.

But I always thought it tasted like chicken... [:-eyebrows]

Good luck on their new venture!

Only a matter of time before one of the meth labs went up in flames. Lots of space over at Delta Coves, though. ;)

^^^^^^^

Yeah, I could just hear the firefighters shouting, "BURN BABY, BURN!!!"... [:-spin]

Too bad the rest of the place didn't go up in flames too! It would have been an improvement to the neighborhood!

Lundborg was another one that thought he could cut a fat hog on methel island (Delta Resort and Anchor Marina). Until someone goes in there and does a clean sweep (and not hold onto them just because they can occassionally come up with some rent money), the old Delta Resort will always be a haven for meth freaks. [:-fight]

I thought they did let it burn to the ground? Maybe they had no choice in the matter because I remember hearing that the fire station on Bethel Island was condemned. Hard to put out a meth fire with a bucket brigade.

Rumors, rumors, rumors. I wish folks would get the facts prior to posting or at least clarify they are posting their opinion. The fire station on BI is alive and well with fire trucks and trained firefighters on station. I saw them Saturday when I drove down to Scout Hall! They have installed a portable building behind the old fire station for use by personnel.

The Lundborgs [personal friends of mine I've known for over 20 yrs] were one of many investors who expected Delta Coves to brings lots of new business onto the island. It is not their fault that the Delta Coves became a major boondoggle. They worked tirelessly to get the area free of the druggies and abandoned cars and trailers. I'm sorry that things did not work out for them and that area has become a blight again.

I'm only going by what I read. So this is either shoddy reporting or it's fact.

Why is it that things seem to always be someone elses fault??? We're constantly hearing the blame thrown elsewhere.

Whatever happened to personal responsibility???

If I make a bad investment, I say so. I don't blame the economy, a bad hair day or the weather.

I blame myself.

Good-bye sweet America! :(

That Bethel Island fire station is a quonset hut. Those were petty popular as WW2 surplus. I saw plenty of those when I was a Navy brat.

Well, things change. As a result of the new local leadership, a new "portable" building is in place. It wasn't shoddy reporting; it was a case of not keeping up with what's changed since then. That link is dated in February. This is April.

I know that when things were being controlled from Martinez, fire protection was a joke. A very dangerous joke! One year a small grass fire became a raging inferno which almost burned down several residences because the "fire dept" didn't know their way around BI to get to the fire. They had to get CDF with water dropping helicopters and a spotter plane before things got under control. I witnessed all of this from the levee.

It was after that fire, that everyone got into an uproar which eventually lead to a more local system and the fire station on BI became operational again.
