On Friday I got to use my membership finally. I went out for a ride and to fill up at Haverstraw by myself around 11. Before pulling into Haverstraw I tied a line off my mid cleat to throw to the gas dock guy and left it sitting on my port side seat wound up. As I turn to grab it I watch it fall over the side and before I can shift to neutral it gets stuck in my port prop and stalls the engine. I dock and fill up to let the steam coming out my ears subside. After evaluating the situation and my time I realize I have to get back to my slip and deal with getting it off the prop later but now the wind has really picked up and one engine would not get me through the S-turn to my slip. I also had to be at a friend's at 2PM to go on a Tuna fishing trip and was running out of time. I called Seatow and a young guy shows up in 20 minutes to help out. He met me at the beginning of the channel to SPBM and ties off to my port side. He was incredible and maneuvered my boat and his (20+ feet wide total) through the marina with a lot of wind without even a slight concern of hitting anything. He got me to my slip and we gently pulled it back in.

I just want to thank SeaTow for the assistance and the incredible response time. He was very professional and obviously knew how to handle his boat and mine in tow. I felt at ease with him handling the boats. I have to find his name and post it as a big thanks and pass this along to Walter who I believe runs the central Hudson area of SeaTow.

BTW – Tomorrow morning I go snorkeling to get the line off. I can't wait.

BTWW – Tuna fishing trip photos to come shortly.

SeaTow Mid Hudson are some of the most competent Captains we have ever dealt with. During the course of our boating on the Hudson we used the services on several occasions, and always felt in very trusted hands.

We came in to Haverstraw one time without a port engine. The winds were picking up and the docking was tight. We called out to Tony, he met us at the entrance to the marina and followed us down to our slip in case we ran into any trouble. Under his watchful eyes, I put our boat in her slip, like I knew what I was doing, he wished me well and would not take anything for his trouble.

Great people.

Mike the marina is half empty why did you feel you needed to be in your slip you could have used mine it would have been much easier.

I'm glad it worked out, are you ever coming out this year?

I gave him a shiny nickel!

I was thinking about pulling in another slip, but I was by myself and there was noone around. Plus the wind was starting to really whip up some big gusts. Better safe than sorry. I'm planning on coming out this weekend, but up in Newburgh, that's why I have to get the rope off the prop for the ride up.

The prop is free. As best I could see in the 6 inch visibility everything looks fine, but won't know till I run it.

My hands are still numb!
