Sen. Charles Schumer is calling on the U.S. Coast Guard to coordinate enforcement activities among various police agencies that patrol the Hudson River after an outcry from boaters that they're being stopped too often for inspections by different agencies.
GREAT IDEA:
One option Schumer recommended is for every agency to honor an annual Coast Guard inspection sticker that boat owners can get each year after undergoing a voluntary safety inspection. If a boat is being operated in a lawful manner and has a valid inspection sticker, there would be no reason for a marine patrol to stop it, Schumer said. The inspections and stickers are free.
