We are looking for a new favorite marina/destination/adventure for '07. We love Pt Jeff/Montauk/Sag/TMH/Cocles/West/Greenport and now wish to travel to another place in LI. How about Jackson Marina or somewere near in Shinnecock Bay? Admiral likes south facing LI beaches, so access to this is paramount. Maybe a dinghy ride or a cab ride from the marina. A good gunkhole spot is cool. Any ideas are welcome.
 
Suffolk County Marina is located just north of the Shinnecocks locks and is within walking distance to a beach on the Peconic Bay.

Another choice which is within walking distance to the ocean is, Oaklands Marina which is located on Dune Road. This marina has a restaurant with evening entertainment at the bar. The marina caters to the fishermen but also has a few transient slips.

If you go thru Shinneock, check out Westhampton town dock (short walk to town and the beach), Fire Island (Ocean Beach and Ocean Bay Park), and you can also check out Watch Hill.... Lot's of nice places on the south shoreof LI.

Great thanks! ~ I don't have my marina Guide with me right now ~ looks (MapQuest)like there is a marina on the west side of the jetty. Is that Oakland Marina?

I most likely will be going to Oaklands on my way to Block Island in mid July for a night.

My wife and I had dinner there a few years ago by car. Good food. I heard it is also a decent place for a transient boat stopover, but need to call in advance.

Right next to Oaklands is Soleau's marina. Maybe not as nice as Oakland but they have a new Top of the Wharf restaurant with a great bar, as well as Sunwaters grill, that overlooks the ocean and bay, and they are the nicest people. If you overnight they have a little breakfaast place that is really good too. Bob and Donna Soleau are the owners.
