Shrink wrap guy has been delayed due to windy conditions. Boat's here at the house, canvas is off and occasional rain has dampened the cockpit carpet. Once I'm wrapped (I'll have an access door in the wrap), I'm thinking of running a dehumidifier inside for a little bit to suck up residual moisture and to cut down on the likelihood of mildew. Wrap will have vents. It it overkill to do this? And what absorbant materials do you leave inside to suck up moisture over the lay-up period? Thanks in advance..

I think it is overkill, but if you think it will work, go for it. Remember, the boat isn't wrapped that tight that you won't be taking in moisture from the makeup air. I do nothing to my boat once it is wrapped and vents installed except to check on it once a week.

I put a container of Damp-Rid ($10 for the largest size at Home Depot) in the galley sink. My cockpit and fly bridge carpets are snap in so I take those home. I don;t worry about the outdoor areas.

Definitely remove anything which is damp! You can reinstall things like the carpet at the beginning of the boating season or when they are completely dry as long as they will stay dry.

I put damp rid in kitty litter in dollar store tins.
Put about 4 or 5 of them in the boat.
No mildew issues, smells piney!
