Solomons place to hook

We are heading down to Solomons this weekend for a week of boating. Any suggestions for a good place to anchor that kids (and adults) can be in waist deep water? How are the nettles right know? With the temp of the last few days will probably bring them up in droves.
 
We were down to Solomons on Memorial Day weekend. You can drop the hook in Back Creek past Zahniser's or Mill Creek, just stay out of the channel and your fine. If you have kids you may want to spring for a mooring ball at Zahniser's ($35) and you can use their pool (very nice).

A nice protected anchorage is in Back Creek. As you enter Solomons harbor turn to starboard at "red 2" into Back Creek and proceed with the slips of Calvert Marina on your port side. Just after you turn to port after "green 3" you will see a small cove on your port side. It provides a nice protected anchorage and has a small sandy beach that you can land at, which is on land owned by Calvert Marina and is about 100 yards from their pool and showers. Calvert Marina will also let you use their showers and pool for a small charge and there is a restaurant on site. Ice can be bought at the restaurant and fish dock near the pool.

With a SW wind that we have forecast for this weekend you could anchor in the cove and either back into the beach and put an anchor ashore or drift back toward the little point on the north of the cove where there is a sandy bank juttin out to the south from the point.
Since you will have a rising tide for the evening you might find some good croaker fishing where you would be anchored.
 
Agree with Mike about Back Creek...Moorings at Zansh. fill up quickly but you can still anchor there Mill Creek very nice too for swimming and overnighting but not real secluded as the shoreline is dotted with beautiful homes. Also, check out Myrtle Point just across the Patuxent for swimming. Nettles aren't bad right now. Have fun, maybe I'll see you...I'm at Beacon
 
Thanks for the suggestions. I can't find Myrtle Point on the charts. Are there some other reference points that you can give me to help zero in on it? Also, when you said Mill Creek, did you mean inside the Solomons cove on the one on the other side of the river? Forgot also to mention that we will have two boats, larger boat for just hanging out and swimming and a smaller boat for making tubing and skiing runs so the ideal hang out spot would have quick access for the sports boat (probably not very conducive for a place like back creek).
 
The Mill Creek that I meant is inside the main harbor not on the other side of the river.
You might do better to get a slip at Calvert Marina as they only charge $1.50 per foot and are the cheapest in Solomons with pool and showers close by. Ask for a T-head and you can put the smaller boat along side. They also used to have the cheapest fuel in Solomons.
You can use you smaller boat to ferry over to the main island and tie up at the many dinghy docks or beach at the Tiki Bar.
 
Check "Clarkes Landing"...Myrtle Point is just beyond the Solomons Rt.4 bridge on the St. Marys side. If you look at a map, Myrtle Point road is just off Rt.4 on the Saint Marys side. The Mill Creek I was refering to is the one in Solomons. We used to water ski and tube in Mill Creek but I believe it is all 6 miles per hour there now.
 
I see Clark's landing on the chart. Thanks. I think I've been on a beach on Half Pone Point (at least that's what the chart calls it) which was a nice beach but the water dropped off very quickly so it was difficult for you kids to be in the water. We will look around that area though.

We also had gone farther up the river and there was a beach area that according to a guy we met there is a popular party hang out sometimes. I don't know what it is called but it's on the starboard side (if your heading up the patuxent) and the beach is shaped like a pennisula that forms a little cove and you can actually take your boat into the cove if you know the channel. I would say it's a good 20 minute cruise from Solomons if memory is correct. Straight across the river is a restaurant/bar. We will be in a 26ft Wellcraft Martinique (blue canvas) and a 20 ft Maxum (red canvas). If you happen to see us stop over to say hi and I'll share a beer for giving you input. Thanks
