Hi everyone, just an update from me. I'm probably not allowed to mention the publication with the owner who lives in Verplanck who just joined my Chamber of Commerce up here in Clifton Park (15 mins north of Albany) and who is giving me the opportunity to write a monthly article discussing issues related to boaters in the northern reaches of the Hudson and the Mohawk, but geez, we're trying really hard to get something going up here and reinforce this area as a worthwhile destination for downstate boaters...
(LOL being a former Putnamite I am still choking on that word "downstate")
The Waterford Steamboat Roundup was wonderful, I made sure the Visitors Center there was chock full of information for those who visited. And we have some ideas for community oriented projects up here in Clifton Park, Halfmoon and Waterford that might be interesting. For example, did you know that in Vischer Ferry there is a beautiful example of an 1842 Erie Canal Lock (Lock 19) thats hidden in the woods with trees growing out of it? Any of you business types want to participate in a rehabilitation project to clean that area up and turn it into a picnic spot? Its on the Mohawk towpath, here's a link to some pics I found on the 'Net:

Also, I dont have pics but in Waterford they will tell you about old Champlain Canal Lock 5 which can be filled with water if someone builds new doors for it. Then an entrepreneur can run a little tour company to show people how the old time locks filled and emptied and drive a boat in and out of it (is it still legal to use mules?)
Oh, and Mechanicville has a nice town dock, is working on building restroom facilities, and at the old "XO" Tower they have a Visitors Center with info and a refrigerator (delivered by yours truly) with ice pops for the kiddies. Yes its true, I am a Chamber President/refrigerator delivery man/Visitors Center janitor/groundskeeper LOL. Someone has to do it
The Saratoga County Fair is July 19-24 in Ballston Spa - anyone wanna come visit? The Chamber will be there for the entire fair, so let me know if you are going to be in the neighborhood...
