Took the boat out yesterday for one of our less frequent days on the water due to high fuel costs. Beautiful day, a little hazy and a constant 15 mph wind gusting to 20. Went from Jersey City to Piermont, NY, and anchored between the old pier and the Tappan Zee bridge. Thought about swimming, but the wind and current made us opt for dangling our legs in the water off the swim platform instead. Admiral prepared a fabulous dinner- lamb chops, brown rice with onions and mushrooms, string beans, cheese and crackers, and a glass of cranberry juice. It was just so good to be out there. I'm going to have to find a way to afford boating in the future. I was thinking about the gas it cost us just for this short trip, but figured that the cost of an upscale restaurant and two therapy sessions the Admiral and I will not need, puts us ahead. Being out on the water has always been our therapy anyway. I hope the rest of you will still find a way to get out there occasionally. It is surely worth it.

Safe and Happy Boating!

Same here! Took "acquaintances" up to Bannerman's Castle, had "brunched" at the dock before heading up. Anchored and had a fabulous time -- to the tunes of "it can't possibly be 6:00 already"! They came back friends, and are anxious for the next "hole in our schedule". Nice! The Admiral is one fantastic hostess, and I help out where I can (and this trip I got the blender to actually make a slushy! ;) )

I really don't care how much gas we're burning, we've gotten *alot* closer now that the pressure is off to do "every weekend"...

Hung on the boat, did some maintenance, but enjoyed it all none the less! Portobellos and Tuna on the grill now!

Choppiest I've seen it this year on haverstraw bay today the wind was comming out of the east saouth east. White cap city stayed at croton and swam around a bit, pretty good crowed tucked in there today.
Dan we axed the trip north cause of the chop , mabey next weekend..............Jon

Nice, guys! Fuel $$$ keeping us closer to home port too, going slower, but still going out.

Spent Fri. night at the marina, just me, kid and dog.

Saturday we tinkered around with outboards and dinghies and then took off for Athens. Anchored out with friends (3 other boats) and dinghied into shore with the dogs to take in the street festival. Colaborated dinner on board. The wine flowed. The fireworks were AWESOME.

The southern breeze last night was great! Constant air flow. All the hatches open, stars out. Just phinominal.

Today, after brunch at Urselas in Athens, we went down to Catskill Creek for a little while. Then a nice run home. Rode the last of the incoming tide, same southern wind, 23 kts while only at 2900 RPM and 9 GPH. Stopped at HR Islands State Park to jump in and let the dog run around.

Got back and cleaned up, finished the lego space ship. More relaxed than I have been in weeks.

Nothing like the boat to get ya that relaxed feeling huh KD. Know it well, glad to hear you had a good time, gonna get up there one of these days and have a beer or two with ya on me.

Yep, we were out Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We had a nice dinner at Bayview Friday night, docking was a challenge but in the end it was worth it.

Saturday, I was nervous about leaving the slip but gave it a shot and all worked well. We're lucky that Croton is a hop skip and jump. We had some outlaws and my very oldest friend was in town with his youngest daughter. Which reminds me, he is USMC-retired (21yrs) and his daughter recently married someone in USMC K-9 unit....HOGAN, I'll PM his name (as best I can remeber it) to see if he knows your cousin. My buddy is confident they know eachother as it is a specialized unit.

Sunday we went out on my sister's bow rider, the kids had a blast. There's alot to be said for being able to get close in.

All-in-all, I feel like I just got back from vacation.

Yo Ken, we are most likely going to anchor out up around Schodack Landing this coming weekend. Gotta stress the crew and new hdwr.

Went out Sunday and had a nice time just north of SP Battlfield. Haverstraw Bay really got snotty out there. The waves were pounding us pretty well all day and the wind was whipping up. All in all we had a nice afternoon.

It was windy Saturday and Sunday. That's why we anchored at Piermont, using the jetty as a wind break. It worked somewhat. Looking east to the main channel we could see constant whitecaps, but only occasional ones where we were. Our original plan was to go to Croton, but from what others are saying here, I'm glad we didn't. Like elsewere on the Hudson, you have to watch your depth. We dropped anchor in five feet at low tide and it was nine feet when we left. If you anchor in five feet at high tide, you may not be happy when you get ready to leave. That's less of a problem upriver, but we get a good 5-6 foot tidal range on a normal day where my boat lives at the southernmost point of the river.

Safe and Happy Boating!

We were out Saturday and Sunday. Anchored out in, well we wont say where but had a great weekend. A few Jet Skiers learned you dont run around anchored boats as well. Sheriff spent quite a bit of time with them....

Sounds good, we weren't brave enough to get out on Sunday with the crew we had. (grandparents and grandchildren). We were planning on that un-named place though, if we were allowed in.

The entrance is strictly controlled and trespassers will be violated.

i haven't been in there this year because i've gone only at high tide, and i like to at least see the wall once to refresh my memory of where it is, and i don't like the violation part much. where are the warnings?

Humm, not so sure I like the violated part either....

The water in Haverstraw Bay was extremely choppy, 3' seas easily. We were in where Butch was. The jet skiers were beyond obnoxious, they were dangerous.

One of the vessels with us called the Sheriff and when they finally got there, they had plenty to work with.

Gee Dan, the only weekend your coming up our way and we will be away at Cub Scout Camp! (I am really looking forward to keeping checks on two dozen 2-5th graders' BTW.... NOT)

Hopefully we can get a bunch of us together up this way sometime soon, though. Would be nice to do a HRCC North Raft Up.

What were they doing that would make someone actually call the cops ?

Not sure, but we've had them rip by the sand bar on the creek at 60 in the past.

Running circles around you at full speed causing some very large wakes. This is with alot of boats anchored. Thay were asked by several boaters not to do it and just ignored them. In fact one of them was so stupid he buzzed the sheriff as they were doing a safety check. His safety check lasted over an hour.
