Its been a while since I posted any updated info on the progress of the new house on Still Pond. While a current picture would not look as if much has happened unless you looked very closely, there has been progress. We did have a slow period when the weather turned bitterly cold and the contractors prefered to focus on jobs where there was heat, but now the rough-in plumbing, electric, HVAC and security systems are all completed and necessary inspections signed off. I even finished prewiring for the entertainment systems. I do need to sand and stain the beams in the great room pretty soon though. Sheetrock is scheduled to get hung beginning tomorrow (Monday) after which I'll act as the laborer and prep guy for a friend of ours who will be doing the tile work.
Have there been issues? Yeah, but nothing too frustrating. The biggest issues have all been with the rough-in plumbing. Briefly stated, when ever there was a question about the plumbing locations or fixtures, the plumber doing the rough-in just went ahead and did what he decided to do without confering with his boss, the GC or us. Fortunately, we try to do frequent visits (considering that the house is almost 2 hours away) and addressed the issues with our GC or the sub-contractor for all the mechanical systems. The sub is easy to work with and whenever his plumber objected to changes or corrections the sub told him to "just do it" so we're relatively confident that everything will be as it should.
We had no opportunity to be there this weekend but will be there next Saturday and Sunday so we're looking forward to seeing the sheetrock installed and real rooms instead of studs. I'll also use that weekend to do the prep work for the floor tile in the bathrooms, hallway off the garage and laundry room.
Yesterday we went back to our granite supplier so the Admiral could show me the slabs she reserved for the kitchen and baths. We also selected the marble slab for the fireplace surround and hearth. If anyone in the South Jersey, SE PA, DE or North MD area is looking for marble or granite I've got a company that I can highly recommend based on huge selection, good pricing and, from what we've seen, quality work. Let me know if you are interested.
That's enough for now. I should have new pictures after next week.
