Stolen Dink on Hudson by Vanderbilt

Some folks had their dink stolen by the Vanderbilt Mansion. Apparently they tied it up and went ashore to visit the mansion and someone swiped it.
It's a grey Zodiac with an 8 hp Johnson. It has weaver snap davit pads on the side and the reggie was on boards. The reggie was from Minnesota but we are thinking that may have been removed.
If you see one around let the authorities know.
 
That could be but this couple has been around a bit. I'm pretty sure they tied it off well and they have been in contact with the authorities.

Update: It was apparently seen being towed north towards kingston yesterday around 2pm.
 
Sad to think that boaters can be dirtbags too. Hope they get it back.

We just got back and as it turned out there were a host of people that were willing to get them back to their boat. The offers they received from everyone proved there are plenty of good people left in the world!
I know the Ulster County Sheriff was out in the rain looking on the creek. It's a really poor showing for NY considering everywhere they've been.
 
That's incredibly lame that someone would steal a dink like that, esp with the owners ashore!!! Is is possible the moron that took it thought it had washed up on shore and was bringing it to someplace to turn it in??? I hope that's what happened, but sadly its not likely....

Sorry to screw up the slogan, but this is another reason I Hate NY these days...

I see no indication that this was done by boaters. More than likely a couple of kids with too much time on their hands.
 
If it was just kids, all the more reason to use a lock on it. The sort that locks when it's tilted up. Won't deter someone intent on stealing it but would slow down the joyriding type. If it was, in fact, seen being towed then it's not likely just kids out for a joyride.
 
Sorry, I did not see the addition to Dan's thread where it had been seen being towed.
 
Good news! The dink has been recovered and returned! It was left tied up in a cove near the CIA and reported. The sheriff has returned it.
 
I wonder if Obama will say that the cops "acted stupidly" in recovering the dink?
 
I've gotta get a t shirt for that. Something like stupid is as stupidly says?

The Democrats in Congress will want you to submit the wording before they will allow your Freedom of Speech to be written on your T-Shirt.
Not that they'd ever try to surpress Freedom of Speech or anything? Oh no we just don't understand?
 
PS Jon, I suspect you were playing on the intelligence community but I couldn't resist. Besides, it fits anyway.
