Went out today off the Croton Point beach. In two hours I got two 12 inches, one 14 inches, and one 17 inches. The river was flat. Life is good. Any else been out fishing for stripers?

I'm on the other side of the country. Haven't been out yet. Makes me sad to think just 50 years ago, the average size was 18 lbs.

Makes me even sadder thinking I used to catch 'em then.[:O]

Went out friday at Stony Point and got 15", 17" and a 24". all in about 2 hours. Yesterday I went out and got bites but no hookups. Then the wind came up fast and chased me in. Maybe next time.

I don't think the big guys due are up that way yet, are they? Its trophy "catch & release" season in the Upper Chesapeake now. Those fish are huge and in the 25 lbs and up range. Full season in the Cheaspeake doesn't start until around Memorial Day when the big girls have finished spawning and are headed for deeper water.

It'd good to know the striper fishery is healthy somewhere. It just hasn't been that way here for decades. Average size during runs are 8-10 lb with 18 being large and an occasional girl over 30.

It's sad to think, other than the fresh ocean run, the most exciting bite is when the Salmon hatchery fish are released from trucks.

delaware Bay trip, the Friday before Memorial Day, 2009. One was 38 lbs and the other is 42 lbs. I'm the guy with the shades on.
