The boat was in the water as Ken, Bonnie, and grandson, Jessie, arrived at the Hanover Street Ramps on Tuesday, 7/11/06.
Jessie took on the responsibilities as my 1st Mate without hesitation and was anxious to help get the TomCat underway. We arrived at the first location, where Jessie assisted the captain in launching and setting the anchor. Our next duty was to rig 3 custom made perch jerking rods from the start. We used monofilament top/bottom rigs, Bear PAW Flicker Snelled Hooks, Size 6. The leader on these long shank hooks had 3 small red beads with a small silver spinner attached above the beads. 1/2 ounce bell sinkers were just right for holding the small pieces of bloodworm on the bottom. Jessie asked many questions during the rigging. He was very excited while waiting to fish, and I could tell he was going to be a fast learner.
The wind and current were both still, making it very difficult to catch fish at the first location. We stayed there for 15 minutes before pulling anchor and heading east 1/4 mile. The same story there, so we headed to an underwater mound.
1st Mate, Jessie, at the Helm
The move proved to be very productive. This underwater mound crests at 16', with drop-offs of 50' on the south side, and 20' on the other 3 sides. The water was clear during an outgoing tide, with a temperature of 80.7 degrees.
Nice Double
Ken, Bonnie, and Jessie bailed plenty of white perch for 2 hours, with the largest being 9". A few small striped bass were also caught on bloodworms. We then agreed to pull anchor and start the historical & site seeing part of the trip. Pictures of a few of the sites visited are below.

Ken, Bonnie and Jessie thanks for allowing me to share the enjoyment you had fishing and touring the Patapsco River.
Special Thanks: To George Pavlik (410-255-2540) for the custom made 4 1/2 feet perch jerking spinning rods engraved 'Custom Built for the Balto. Harbor Trips'. They supplied just the right action to make catching perch exciting.
