Quick question. I want to add a tank monitoring system for at least 2 tanks and my internet searching as turned up 2 candidate systems. Does anyone have any experience with either (or both) of these and which may be a better bet?

Raritan Tank Monitor - $250 (best price found)
SensaTank Marine - $190 (best price found)

Raritan uses the foil strip method of detection and SensaTank uses four press on sensors for each tank (1/4, 1/2, 3/4, Full).

Thanks for any info.

Being employed by Raritan, and naturally biased toward their products, I'll keep quiet - at least for a while - on this one, and let others do the speaking.

There's another system on the market, very similar to the Raritan model, being manufactured and sold by Ferriello Sales, out of Utah or Idaho - somewhere out west, anyway.

Ferriello Sales, over a several year period about 10 years ago, took over the business of the old Snake River company, who had pioneered the foil strip technology. You can search for Ferriello Sales on the web; I think their prices are a little lower than Raritan's.

I would like to add a system as well. Is there a system that does 2 waste, 1 water, 2 diesel?

Thanks, Vic. I've looked at their (Snake River) system(s) and are very similar to Raritan's. I have since ordered their iSeries model.

I just ordered a Scad Solo. It uses the aluminum sensor tape. Less than $150 including shipping. (google for a good price)

It was rated number one for a single tank monitor by Practical Sailor back in 2008 and every customer review I have read on different forums give it 5 stars. I have read about people using this monitor to check 2 or 3 tanks by buying extra sensor tape and wiring everything thru a rotor switch. Turn the switch to the position (tank) you want and check levels. They also make an 8 tank monitor.

I purchased and installed the SensaTank II. It monitors two tanks. Since my water tanks are connected together, I figured I only needed to monitor one of them.

The side I used for the potable water tank works fine after I realized that you need to stay a couple inches away from the corner of the tank with the sensors.

The side I used for the holding tank does not work well because of sludge on the inside walls of the tank. If I clean the inside of the tank walls, it will read correctly. Once the tank has been filled and then emptied, the reading is pretty unreliable unless I clean the inside of the tank again.

You wouldn't expect sewage to stick to the tank surface but it does. I suspect it is because the PO was in the habit of flushing baby oil down the head to make it easier to pump.

That's only a theory, not a proven fact. I'm still working on a solution.

Thanks again for the suggestions/opinions. I haven't received the iSeries from SnakeRiver yet. They said they found a software glitch and stopped my shipment. They've since fixed the glitch and resent a new one (without the glitch!).

I dread the day when our holding tanks need software updates like out plotters do!
