Well, both boats are in the water. Searay runs great, though I can no longer run the boat due the loss of use in my right hand / arm, and the throttles being tight.
Anyways, so I take a ride on the little boat today. I venture out of the canal, head towards the 2nd wantagh bridge. I come off plane 100 yards or so before the bridge, As I am 30 yards from going under the bridge a young guy in a pen-s boat (checkmate) comes on plane passes me and goes under the bridge.. Didnt bother to slow down AT ALL.
I continue on, and I go under the meadow brook bridge heading towards the inlet. I finally get to the inlet, all is good till I see coming out me heading north are two large (40' plus) sportfish, on plane. I stay closer to the green marker and I come up on an older 15-18' closed bow runabout ANCHORED in the inlet. At this point I am 100ft off this boats stern, and he starts waving me off because he had his line in the water and he was afraid I was going to run it over. Yes, I could have gone outside the channel to pass, but there were a few boats just outside the channel in my path, if I were to go that way. I pass him and hes flipping me the finger and screaming something at me.
I continue my ride, 20 minutes later, I am well out in the ocean, and I turn around and head in. I come into the inlet, and I approach the same guy. He starts throwing something at me. I turn around to have a word with this guy. Turns out they are three guys under 30 (pretty close to my age). I pull within 35 feet of his boat and calmly explain, that you cannot be anchored within an Inlet. I barely got the sentence out before he threw another bottle at me, landed on my dash and broke the screen on my GPS.
I came seconds from getting close, jumping in his boat and kicking his rb2@gr5tss. Now I have my gf all upset and crying because shes scared. So I tell the guy to go f himself and I leave. As, I am coming off plane at the Meadow Brook bridge, I see a bay constable. I get him on the radio and he pulls up along side of me. I calmly explain what happened, and he gives me a look, and says "what do you want me to do about it" I simply replied, Im just informing you of the activity of a dangerous boater. The constable says ok and drives off. He drives off in the COMPLETE OPPOSITE DIRECTED. He starts heading west, and the inlet is southeast from where we were.
WTF is wrong with this?
None the less, it was nice to be out on the water. Trying to see some positives out of todays adventure.
