We are thinking of finally taking the boat away for a long weekend on September 20-22. I know its late in the year but hey got to move it sometime.

The usual area that come to mind are Rondout but possibly The Channel Club or somewhere else in a 3 hour range from Haverstraw. Any ideas for that time of year?

I would go to the Channel Club before I went to Kingston IMHO, there is no beach in Kingston.

The pool is still open until Sunday the 21st, maybe you should take the 19th off and enjoy 3 days pool/beachside.

Considering the pools at both places will be closed....if you have kids, the Channel Club has an Ocean nearby but Roundout has a small playground, swimming in the creek and things to do in town.

If swimming is in the cards, which do you prefer fresh water or salt water?

Channel Club's heated pool is open that weekend.

I asked Dave 2 weeks ago and he confirmed.

In late September I doubt we would be swimming in the ocean. If its warm out we could go to the beach. What is in walking distance from the Channel Club? Shops - etc? I would say a cab ride but we wont be carrying the childrens seats with us.

Aha, the pool will be open...that seals the deal. Within walking distance, there's a small town with a pizza shop/deli called Michaelangelos (sp?) Next door is an ice cream parlor.

Last time we were there, my wife took a cab to the monmouth mall. When our kids were young, we'd put them on our laps in the back of a cab. Not sure if this is legal but we were fine with it when in a pinch. Also, see if the race track is open...next time we go back, we definitely want to hit the races. As silly as it sounds, kids love it.

Rob,

The Ocean stays warm into October and chances are you might get a nice warm weekend, last year the weather was perfect, warm, not humid and the ocean temp was great.

Any fishing left to do around the hook that time of year? besides blues.

the fall is the best time of year for the ocean, the water is warm and the beaches are empty.

There is sea bass/striper/blue fishing and some ling and cod which is much further offshore.

For the sea bass you have to really find structure and you would need a fish finder for that. For the blues just look for the birds working over the school, stripers can be under the blues.

Also remeber the fuel at the CC is much cheaper than Kingston!

...or he could go to Belmar, where the fuel is even cheaper!

We have no idea what is going on at RYB. The fuel is totally over priced given surrounding marinas.

I will be heading to Rondout from Lincoln Harbor on the 27th for one night. Staying at Belle's Inn. How are the town docks?

I would think you would be ok. They are convenient to the waterfront and the restaraunts within the area. Ship To Shore, Savona's, etc. for dinner. All within easy walking distance.

And have a very large choice of restaurants while enjoying the now empty beaches!

And get this, the dock fee's are almost HALF what they are at the Channel Club!
