Cruise ship breaks mooring lines

I guess they do when conditions require it but in this case they were docked.

This is the problem when using multiple dock lines the load is not distributed evenly. The same thing will happen with our boats in storms. Unless the lines are all equally tensioned, one will carry more load and fail and the same thing happen to the next one and the next.

When securing a boat for storm, better use one or two oversized lines than multiple normal size lines

For the most part we've seen the tugs show up when they come into a harbor and they tag along until the ship is at the dock.
