HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE UPTON NY
104 PM EDT WED MAY 16 2007

TORNADO WATCH IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM EDT THIS AFTERNOON

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT AND SOUTHEAST NEW YORK.

TORNADO WATCH.

THE STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS PLACED SOUTHWEST CONNECTICUT AND
THE LOWER HUDSON VALLEY OF NEW YORK UNDER A TORNADO WATCH. THERE IS
THE POTENTIAL FOR ISOLATED SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH EARLY THIS
EVENING. THE MAIN THREATS ARE LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS. LOW-
LEVEL WIND SHEAR PROFILES ALSO SUPPORT THE POTENTIAL FOR ISOLATED
TORNADOES. THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL ALSO PRODUCE LOCALLY HEAVY
RAINFALL...CAUSING FLOODING OF POOR DRAINAGE AND LOW LYING AREAS.

3:30 PM A major cell rolled over my office in Ramsey.. Headed for the river the Radar doesn't look good...

I left Haverstraw a little after three this afternoon as the dark clouds were moving in. Drove through some good rain with lightning as I headed West, but did not encounter any severe winds.

I had a NICE BOAT RIDE with a customer on Lake Mahopac today! Almost sold the boat, too, except that her husband was supposed to come back and go out with me at 5PM but of course the weather didn't hold. Oh well, there's always tomorrow. Still, its was fun to get out there with the breeze and all. Charlie hasn't had me doing test drives in quite awhile...

Pete she went out with you and said her husband was going to come back later? I dunno.... Maybe she just wanted a boat ride?

Man, it was rough! I stopped by the boat yesterday to add a new fender I bought. Walked out to the boat (End of dock) no problem. Decided it'd be good to tether the deck chairs and by the time I went to leave, the wind was blowing like crazy. I actually fell on the dock trying to leave. Made it to the car, drove to the clubhouse and watched the storm. Something caught fire on the tracks near us, two trees were down and we were stranded. An associate boater just "had" to tell someone about the tree so he called the Croton Police even though we said he shouldn't. He tells the officer "I'm at the Croton Yacht Club, there are about eight of us here and we're all stranded due to several trees and a power line blocking the only road out".

He responded: "You're going to be there for a while, belly up to the bar and have a few"...LOL...we told him not to call.

We have no power but I have the genny running at home...I'm sure glad I didn't sell it. In the end, we have internet access and the fridge is running. Cable is shot but Satellite probably works.

Walshie, glad you at least hit the dock and not the water.

I was off to the post office when I heard about the severe storm warning and tornado watch. I hustled home to close windows to a crack opening, then went upstirs to tie down chairs and take umbrellas off our roof deck. The wind was getting a bit wild, the sky was darkening and the birds were seeking shelter. I saw a few deer run up the aqueduct. The wind picked up more and I saw some funky looking, fast moving clouds not too high in the sky with downward "points". Then I heard the sound of a train. Now I don't know much about tornadoes, but these things together didn't seem right.
I jumped back inside and was halfway down to grab the dog and run to the storage room in
the basement before I remembered we live across the street from the Metro North tracks.

Laughter does plenty to settle nerves, even at yourself and by yourself.

Hope everyone's homes and toys are okay.

Honora

Funny, some tornadoes sound like a freight train, yours sounds like the 5:15 out of grand central.

"Pete she went out with you and said her husband was going to come back later? I dunno.... Maybe she just wanted a boat ride?"

Perhaps. Too bad she wasn't young and cute. But even though we didn't end up selling the boat it was worth it - I haven't been out on the water except in the workboat yet this year. Hopefully tomorrow and Saturday will change that, but we'll see...

Let us know if you are in a bind. We'll stop by so you can take us out too ok? :D
