I am considering getting a trailer for my 2002 Chap 280 Signature cruiser, and I have a few concerns:
Weight: Chap lists the dry weight at 8,500 lbs. However, this boat comes in both single and twin engine configurations. Do you think the 8,500 lb rating is for the single engine configuration (i.e. do they show the lightest or heaviest weight?)? I have had conversations on similar topics with the local dealer in the past, and I don't trust any answers they give, so I may not even bother asking them.
Also, any ideas on how much ti add to the dry weight to get the trailer weight?
Tandem vs. Tri-axle: I have a qoute from a trailer mfg for a tandem axle trailer with 16" tires, with a capacity of 10,696 lbs. Up from that is a tri-axle, with 15" D tires, and a capacity of 13,736 lbs. What are your thoughts on the tandem vs. triple?
Note: The boat will not be trailered very often, and only for short distances on level ground.
Bridge Clearance: The bridge clearance in the water is 10'. Add to that the draft with drives up of 25", and we have a total of 12'1", plus trailer. Do I need to be concerned with bridge clearance? Any one have any experience with a similar boat on a trailer?
