We will be towing the boat down and putting in where we are staying on Travenier Key for Saturday night.

Does anyone have a recommended restaurant --

local charm is great
not looking for super fancy
will be four adults plus two kids
(so kid friendly is good)
will go there by car

thanks

Janet and I have eaten at the "Fish House" in Key Largo. Good yellowtail snapper. Not much for atmosphere, but good food. It's at about mile 102.3 , so you'd have to back track a little from Tavernier.
Ocean side of the Highway. Not on the water. Easy to miss when trying to9 find it.

We've also enjoyed the Islamorada Fish Company in Islamorda. 81532 Overseas Hwy at about mile 81.5 Bayside. .....a little farther down the keys from Tavernier. Nice outdoor seating atmosphere, but protected under a pavillion type roof. Right on the bay. Good local dolphin (aka dorado or mahi-mahi). This restaurant has become a chain, but this is the original location, which started as a marina snack-bar in the 1940s. This location was much better than another location we had eaten at in Dania.

At the Islamorada location, the kids will enjoy the little bridge that goes obver the shark lagoon. Fun atmosphere. Good (not fancy) food.

Have a great trip. How long will you be in the keys?

thanks Glenn -- only one night -- we have the luxury here of going for quick trips ---and the weather forecast is 1-2 footers and low wind
We have a 2 br apartment for one night --it will be just us plus son and his wife and the two grandkids Saturday -- then on Sunday our German friends may join us since they have been in Miami and South Beach for the last few days.

You are welcome to join us ----

take care -- Dale and Su

Wish we could have, but too much work gpoing on here right now, 1100+ miles north of Tavernier.

Enjoy the weekend.

Hey Glenn -- Weather was absolutely fantastic -- waves 1-2 feet -- we snorkeled at so many places --

we had good accomodations at a private community called Ocean Pointe at Trevernier. Gated community --good private launch ramp --ocean side --- pool -- tennis courts -- very nice --good condition --- thay seem to be a bit anal about things though -- We almost didn't get in until we provided proof of boat insurance with the proper coverage. I had to up my boat liability coverage and have a copy faxed to them before we could launch --but it all worked out - I think we paid about $179 for one night with a full two bedroom, two bath full kitchen apartment.

The family and kids decided Pizza was the routine for dinner -- so did not use the restaurants -- We did have a nice Mother's day brunch at the Key Largo Conch House -- wife had Conch and eggs benedict -- son has Key Line crepe's -- nice dishes -- with free Mamosa's for the women -- decent place --mile 102.2

We did lot more exploring and miles on the water than usual. I still have my electrial starting problem but I have a reliable method to pop the engine hatch -- remove the start relay and jump two connection with a small jumper I made - a bit of a hassle but it works -- I have to do more troubleshooting and find the problem - I am 90% convinced it is the whole relay fuse box - it is not the relay itself as I have three good ones of those now.

take care -- Dale and Su

Ocean Pointe sounds like a nice place...but wow, they sure sound tightly wound with regard to the insurance. If we ever go there, I'll make sure I have an insurance certificate with me with the proper liability amount. How much liabiklity coverage do they want?

We'll give Key Largo Conch House a try some time. I think we might have seen it last time down in the keys. At 102.2, it would be near the Fish House, which is 102.3.

Glad to hear the Mom's had a nice time. Free mamosa's would definitely set a good mood for the day.

Good luck with that electrical problem. As you know, I have the same engine, same year, etc., but no problems for me yet. (fingers crssoed).

Glad the trip went well, and you could overcome the electrical issue.

Janet says hi, too, to both you and Su. .

The Ocean Pointe wanted $300M -- I only had $50M --and had not looked at policy in years -- it was only about $25 a year more -- so I have left it there.

ordered new fuse box for boat -- %150 -- will see if that is the problem -- it does seem to go away sometimes when you work with relays there -- we will see --- since we are masters at jumping the relay it hasn't stopped us and we don't need Sea Tow -- but not what I want to do forever

I assume you mean $300K? (Not $300M). I looked at my policy, and currently have $500K liability.

Good luck with the fuse box, and let us know how it works out.

Ocean Point is in my opion the best place to stay in the keys. We live in Fort Lauderdale a go down there all the time.
