Hi...went to the boat for a couple of days. Nice getting out a little...but I may have a runaway charger. It boiled both my 8Ds to the point it took a gallon of distilled water in each one. At a charge of 13.33 volts (per boat instruments and my voltage tester) it would not crank the 3208 Cats. Sounded like it had a surface charge....so I have two 8Ds to remove and maybe replace.

I would like to put golf cart batteries in. An 8D weighs ....uh...135-150 pounds I guess, and the Trojan 105s weigh...much less.

How to get an 8D out? They are against a bulk head, two of them, and about knee high. I was brainstorming about sliding one down a board...then put a small A Frame up inside the boat.
Too complicated. Harbor Freight has a hydraulic ram device that will lift...like a 1,000 pounds, but it weighs about 240 pounds itself.

The batteries are under the floor...about 3 feet to the rear.

1. Opinions on using two golf cart batteries to start a Cat 3208 --375hp engine

2. Getting batteries out?

In the old days I would have put card board on the carpet and just lifted the battery out of there. Of course, as my wife suggested, that probably contributed to why I am on morphine for my back...DUH!!??? That woman is smart as a tack, she only screwed up once, but I hid the marriage license from her, so she is stuck.

Thanks for any help, I probably should look on the main forum for this stuff. Sure was a pretty day today..and yesterday......Dave
