Yesterday was a great day, the weather was nice and the river was flat. We had some friends aboard and since we had the issue of low tide in the middle of the day we needed to head out early and stay out for a while. We decided to take a trip around Manhattan.
The trip was great but as we came south on the East River there were CG boats (big and small) all arount the UN. It turns out the General Assembly was in session. The CG stopped us and told me to follow the motor yacht in front of us until we were way past the UN. They asked/told us to not go slower than that boat or not to pass him till we past the cutter that was downriver. I have never seen so many CG boats in one spot, plus there were a bunch of NYC Police boats as well. We then had an escort next to us the whole way down with a service person manning the machine gun on the bow. It was nice how firm yet polite they were.
There were also several CG boats around the Statue of Liberty so we could not go very close in. What a great ride (about 5 hours). It makes me sad that soon the boat will be hauled for the winter..
