Good Morning folks

The through bolt that goes through into the Port Stateroom wall for the main stairs into the Salon snapped. I'm going to have to temporaily remove the stairs to remove the piece remaining. Has anyone had to do this before? Looks like I need to pull the carpet up to get to the base bolts?

Thank you

Mine broke a few years ago. I had to bend a threaded rod 90° to fix it. I now carry a spare. Should be able to unscrew the bolts in the base.

Thanks Hogan. Looks like I need to pull up the carpet to get to the bolts. Thank you for the Threaded bolt idea! I'll try it out next weekend.

Hi Hogan,
What do you mean by having to bend a threaded rod 90°?

I have a 2000 Trojan 440 Express and the stairs "wobble" badly. I found the screw coming through into the port side aft cabin and tried to tighten it but it doesn't make much difference.

I built a box that snuggly fits under the bottom stair so that the stairs rest on it to at least stop the "side-to-side" wobble as you go up and down them.

Thanks

Brooklyn, that "screw" is actually a threaded rod, about 6" - 8" long, that is bent at a 90° angle, and goes into the top of the center pole that holds the steps. Sounds like the screw that hold the bottom of your stairs to the floor are loose.

Has anyone replaced the screw(s) at the base of the stairs?

Mine are screws and although I can tighten them, they just get loose again after several trips up/down. Looks like the wood is pretty torn up from this process over the years.

I don't think I can go with larger screws as the water tank is below the stairs and I don't wish to puncture it.

I pulled the carpet back from the screws but didn't see a way to use a bolt to replace the screws without what looks like some major work removing carpet and water tank to get to the underside of the floor ...
