Unique Functional Product Surge Brake use sheet
Notes: If the proper size hitch ball is not used, or the ball is unusually worn out, the safety latching mechanism designed into this assembly will not function properly and you run the risk of damage to the coupler by trying to force it open. If you experience problems, try a different hitch ball first. Do not force the latch open or closed.
SAFETY PIN AND BRAKE LOCKOUT
SAFETY PIN
WARNING: It is mandatory to install either the clevis pin (supplied) or a padlock (1/4" or 5/16" shank) into the coupler before towing. This will prevent any accidental opening of the coupler latch. If latch inadvertently opens, the trailer could jump off the hitch ball causing injury and/or equipment damage.
LOCKOUT BRACKET
The brake lockout bracket is useful in situations where the brakes energize while you are backing up (backing up a hill for example)
To Use:
1. Insert clevis pin into padlock hole on side of coupler.
2. Insert brake lockout into slot behind roller pin on side of main body.
3. slide brake lockout completely forward in slot. Washer will keep brake lockout from falling out. You won't lose it if the clevis pin is installed.
When you back the trailer, the brake lockout keeps the actuator from compressing. When you pull the trailer forward and the actuator extends, the brake lockout should fall out of the slot.
WARNING: Before towing, make sure the brake lockout is removed from the slot otherwise the brakes will not energize.
To Store:
Simply insert the clevis pin through the ring on the bracket and into the coupler AFTER the latch is closed. If you have any questions or problems, please contact our customer service department.
