Hi all, been a way from boating but am back. New boat has a vacuflush head and I'm a marine head noob. There use to be a lady name Peggie (if I remember right) that posted all kinds of bibles on marine head maintenance. Any idea where I can find her stuff.

I need to learn the basics on the do's and don't of maintaining my system.

Any help is appreciated.

The duckbill valves are the most common maintenance need item. I believe they recommend repalcing every 5 to 7 years. The symptom is won't hold vacuum so pump recycles. There are 4 per unit, 2 on each side of the vacuum unit where the hoses attach. I believe there are instructions on the Vacuflush site. Also, there is a maintenance kits that contains a few more items.

If you search this forum, I beleive you will also find tips for replacing the duckbills. I know I am due to replace, but have not done it yet so I have no first hand knowledge.

BTW - I ordered replacements from BoatFix :)

Flush often with freshwater and CP before any storage.

Peggie wrote a pretty comprehensive book on marine sanitation a few years back. The contract with her publisher required that anything that was included in the book could no longer be available on the internet for free, so most of her stuff has been taken down.

Here's a link to where you can purchase the book from Amazon ((change the (dot) between amazon and com in the web address to an actual dot)):

http://www.amazon(dot)com/Get-Rid-B...=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1334964286&sr=1-1

Amazon has it for a VERY good price - well worth it!

I remember Peggy Hall from my days on the old rec.boats website.

She was very helpful AND was a fellow Trojan owner.

Where is she today?

Flush with Fresh water as often as possible. When it stops holding a vaccum then u break it down. I can't stress enough to flush with water . When we pump out . Ill run a ton water down the head. Its worked for me for many years.

She is still around. Just not here. I talk to her fairly often and have her Email address if you need it.

Peggie officially retired the first of the year. She can still be contacted via e-mail, but most of what she can tell you is already included in her book, that I referenced earlier.

Don't forget to periodically clean the bowl seat seal with the provided tool.
