My vacuflush head got out of sync. Normally when the foot lever is in the middle neutral position the ball is closed.

I stepped on mine and it felt kind of funny and then the ball would open when I released the pedal instead of closing. Obviously the head won't work like that. Lucky it was only liquids.

I took apart the pedal and water valve and got to the spring cartridge. There is a square post on the shaft that turns the ball and a square hole in the spring cartridge. Somehow the shaft was in the wrong position in the cartridge, turned 90 degrees from normal. I realigned everything and reassembled it. Everything worked fine for about two weeks. Then it happened again.

So I'm going to get a new spring cartridge before I repair it. Did I do something wrong? Is this a normal wear item? I've seen a lot about duckbills and clogs but never this problem.

I have a similar problem. Sometimes when I released the foot pedal, the ball did not close – and I had to use my hand to move to ball forward. I’ve cleaned the ball and seal IAW the directions and lubed it with pledge. A few days later, same thing. At this point I begun to think it’s toilet paper from the ladies clogging the ball/seal and maybe not using enough water to flush when paper is involved. We’re being more instructive to the ladies and ensuring they use more water when flushing paper. I hope this is the issue and nothing serious.

Well is does seem to take a lot of pressure to step on the lever sometimes. Will Pledge help that? I've had the normal issue of paper causing a poor seal and having to clean the seal to stop vac leaks.

I don't know which model Vacuflush head you have, but the Econoflush had a recall on the foot lever. It is a plastic assembly with a snap in cover to hide the bolt head. There was another model that had a metal "frame" which went inside the pedal assembly. VacuFlush sent me the metal ones by mistake and didn't want them back. If that's what you need I'd be willing to send them to you. Email me if they sound like they might work. I'm out of town until Thursday, but I can snap a pic then and send it to you. Let me know.

Thanks absoloot but the part I need is inside the metal frame. It's spring inside a white plastic piece. The plastic has a square hole and the ball shaft has a square peg. The problem is that you can put a square peg into a square hole four differnt ways. Once it get in the wrong way, you have to take it apart to make it right.

I wish I knew how it was getting messed up. All the internet buzz on vacuflush never covers this.

Well I have the spring cartridge on order. Looking at the old one, the square hole is a little chewed up and rounded, it is a soft plastic. It's almost like the ball is too hard to turn. Is there an adjustment for that? When I first go the boat, the ball leaked a lot of air, so the dealer did something to fix it. I figured he just cleaned the seal.

I used to spray silicone on the ball and seal from time to time to keep it working smoothly. If the seal starts to leak again you may want to replace it, it's easier than messing with it.

OK it's fixed. It seems like someone forgot a screw. There are a total of three screws that hold the spring cartridge in. On reassembly, one screw goes in before the water valve and two go through the valve. The one before the valve was missing on my head, the repair kit came with this screw.
