Looking for guidance - When I leave the boat on Sunday night for the week, is it better to a) leave the system under pressure b)relieve the pressure, or c) doesn't matter either way?

I turn it off. I also turn the water pump off.

In fact all I leave running is the battery charger and the refrigerators.

Like Ernesto said, it's best to turn it off. If the ball valve under the bowl or the duckbill valves in the vacuum pump don't seal properly, the vacuum pump could wind up runing continually until the next time you come back onboard.

Sorry guys - maybe I didn't phrase the question correctly. I do turn everthing off except the battery charger. However, the question is after turning off the pump, water, etc., do I step on the pedal to relieve the pressure, or should I let it stay pressurized? It will actually hold the pressure all week if I leave it pressurized after turning everything off - I was just currious what is actually recommended.

Hmmm, good question... I would guess it doesn't matter, but let's see what Vic says...
I leave it pressurized, as I always go and do a clean water flush before leaving to leave the hoses as clean as possible, and I wait for it to finish pressurizing before turning the breaker off.

I called and spoke with the head of Northeast Sanitation, the regional distributor for VacuFlush for the whole Northeastern U.S. - Maine to Maryland. I was told that it doesn't make any difference whether you leave it under vacuum or not - some say the duckbills last longer when not under vacuum - others say just the opposite...

Their official position is that it doesn't make any difference. Just be sure to turn off the power to it before leaving.

Vic,

Thanks for the update. I've always left it under vacuum in the past - I guess I'll just keep doing what has worked for 3 years now.... I figured I could also monitor if it was holding a seal by the water in the bowl and if/how long the vacuum pump ran once turned on the following week. I was just concerned if anything would take a "set" if left for long periods under vacuum, or lose something if not under vacuum...

Thanks again,
