Quick question for the sanitation gurus.
How many times should the vacuum pump cycle after flushing on a good VC system? I have replaced all duckbills, everything works good but cycles 40-50 time before cutting off. Seems too long to me.
Thanks,
we love this forum......

seems way too long to me too. Ours cycles about 8 to 10 times

On a good VacuFlush system, the vacuum pump should come on as soon as you flush it, and it should run anywhere from 10-30 seconds, then shut off. And it should stay off until the next time it is flushed.

Sounds like you've got a vacuum leak somewhere; or possibly, duckbills need to be replaced.

Pascal is our resident VacuFlush guru - he knows a lot more about them than I do. And you can take what he suggests to the bank. If he has all the necessary information available to him, he's rarely ever wrong.

More info for Pascal if he jumps in here.
The Sea Ray is 10 years old, 700 hours usage, just replaced the duckbills on both units ( 8 total), hear no vacuum leakage down below or in the aft compartment. Units never come on by themselves. Both forward and aft units perform about the same, aft pumps about 35 times, forward about 55 times. Never have timed it with a watch. New duckbills lowered the pump cycle from about 90 times to the current cycles. Both bowls hold water good. Will they get better as the duckbills break-in? Maybe it's as good as it gets !!!
Thanks

It sounds to me like it may be normal. I am guessing you have a long length of hose or pipe. It takes a little longer with more pipe.
Toilet holds water, and pump does not continue to cycle after it reaches full vacuum. I would think you are good.

Not sure what else you can do other than Pascal had just quoted in another thread about lubing the duckbills to keep them from twisting on installation.

Sounds a little too long, maybe the Vac pumps are wimpy?
I dont know if there is rebuld kit's for the vac pumps but you should look into it.

Mine are 11 years old and after 10-20 sec'c stop.

The time that it pumps will vary, depending on the distance between the actual toilet pedestal and the vacuum pump. That's why I said between 10 and 30 seconds - each installation is a little different. The key is that once it shuts off, it's supposed to stay off until the next time the pedal is pressed. How many times it pumps is of no real consequence, just that it shuts off in less than a minute. If it takes more than 60 seconds before it shuts off, something probably is wrong somewhere.

Thanks guys,
I double checked the easiest duckbills to make sure I had not twisted them, they looked good. I timed the pump action and it runs 30 seconds on the aft and about 50 seconds on the forward. Guess that's good enough until a problem develops and then I'll rebuild the whole unit....

When it comes to VF my advice is: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Last season I had a clog and had to replace the duck bills and it was not a pleasant task.
