Good question. He forgot his gauge. I was not pleased. My boat has been down for nearly a month.

I think at that point I would have said ... Oh man - you know I forgot my checkbook... tell you what, you go get your gauge and I'll go get my checkbook and meet you back here in an hour... ;)

Actually he was very professional. He even refused to take a partial payment.

I actually think he is stumped. This is the darnest problem. Each time out a different engine fails. I have checked everything. It does not help that we have very few Volvo mechanics in this area.

I thought I would update this for any Volvo owners who may experience this problem. I finally found a mechanic (at the dealer) who was able to diagnose the problem. It seems that the electrical connections to the low pressure side of the fuel pumps were corroded on both engines. It was an unfortunate coincidence that they both started failing close to the same time ( I now realize that the star board engine has been doing this off and on for a while)

If one of the previous mechanics would have simply checked the fuel pressure a lot of time could have been saved.

To the members who advised to check the fuel pumps, you were correct.

To the members who advised to check the idle air sensor, you were correct also. When the fuel pump is not functioning properly the Idle Air sensor is affected.

Glad to see you finally figured your problem out. With you being even farther south than I am, I'm sure you still have plenty of boating time left for the season!

Doesn't it feel good to drive without engine problems again?

Greendoc,

You said a mouth full. This problem was like visiting the dentist, whenever the mechanic was there it ran fine. However, it was always a distant worry that it would happen again. Although it was a pain to diagnose, I am glad that it finally got severe enough to determine the cause.

The boating season is just beginning for us. I can't wait.
